Thompson Violin Studio

Welcome to the teaching page of Emily Thompson, a professional violinist and experienced teacher. Emily is an adjunct professor at Indiana Wesleyan University, where she teaches violin, viola, chamber music, and string techniques. She is the director of the IWU Suzuki Violin Program, where she teaches private and group classes to pre-college students from age 5 to 18. She also teaches private lessons and string orchestra class to homeschoolers in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at Redeemer Lutheran Church. 

Emily Thompson studied violin pedagogy with Mimi Zweig at the Indiana University String Academy, where she learned and applied the teaching methods of Shinichi Suzuki, Paul Rolland, and Mimi Zweig as a graduate student and assistant teacher. She also taught as an assistant in the IU Summer String Academy, and served on the faculty of the  Indianapolis Academy of Music. Emily pursued Suzuki training at the Hartt Suzuki Institute with Christie Felsing, and is a registered Suzuki teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

 The IWU Suzuki Violin program offers children musical training in a nurturing, inspiring environment at Indiana Wesleyan University.

 The Suzuki method of learning emphasizes that every child can learn to play and enjoy music. In our program, the teacher works together with the whole family to support the student’s success at every step.
